NOv 20, 2007 - private development firm has proposed entering into a public-private partnership with the N.C. Department of Transportation to fund a Brunswick County transportation improvement project. Brunswick County Commissioners adopted a resolution in support of the proposed partnership at their meeting Monday night. “This is uncharted territory,” commissioner May Moore said of the proposed partnership, but she stressed the need for the project. Tri-City Incorporated has proposed entering into a partnership with NCDOT to help build a proposed four-lane connector route from N.C. 211 to N.C. 87 near Southport, according to Eugene Conti, vice-president and district director of the Raleigh-based consulting firm PBS&J. Conti, who previously served as the state’s deputy secretary of transportation, said Tri-City Incorporated has been in talks with NCDOT for several months to move forward with the partnership. NCDOT’s TIP project R-3324 is a proposed two-lane 1.2-mile stretch estimated to cost $25 million. Tri-City Incorporated’s proposal is for a 4.2-mile, four-lane roadway. By Caroline Curran
