N.C. unemployment rate up slightly in June |
July 19, 2007 - North Carolina's unemployment rate edged up slightly last month in part because of high school students looking for summer jobs, state officials said Friday.
The June unemployment rate was 4.9 percent, up from 4.8 percent in May, according to data released Friday by the state Employment Security Commission. Seasonally adjusted unemployment increased by 6,000 workers last month, to 223,849. Over the past year, unemployment has increased by 8,450. The state's total employment increased by 1,963 workers in June to 4,309,833, the state said. Overall employment since June 2006 has increased by 52,123 workers. - AP
