Deadline to appeal values is Thursday |

June 2, 2007 - Deadlines for property assessment appeals are passing, but Brunswick County administrators promise that all property owners participating in the process will be given their fair shake. Thursday, May 31, is the deadline for property owners to file a formal appeal with the county board of equalization and review regarding their assessments in this year’s revaluation. Tax administrator Tom Bagby stresses that deadline, saying appeals must be physically in the tax office by 3 p.m. Thursday, as opposed to being postmarked by that date. But several of those who first filed an informal appeal through the county tax office have yet to hear word as to whether they should take that next step. Not to worry, says Bagby. While 90 percent of more than 12,000 informal appeals filed have been processed, he said all property owners who filed such an appeal will still be able to appeal to the board after Thursday’s deadline. If a response from the tax office arrives in the mail after May 31, Bagby said, recipients have 15 days from receiving notice to appeal to the board.
