CREATING JOBS AND STRENGTHENING THE ECONOMY
- Providing incentives and building relationships to encourage companies to locate and/or expand here
- Exhibiting "the best business climate in the nation" for three straight year according to the prestigious Site Selection magazine
- Ranking 1st in the South and tied for 6th in the nation in Fortune magazine's list of America's 100 fastest-growing small companies
IMPROVING EDUCATION
- Reducing class size in kindergarten and high priority schools
- Ranking in the top ten nationally in efforts to improve teacher quality
- More at Four is a national model for pre-school education created by Gov. Mike Easley
- Increasing SAT scores in the 2003-2004 school year, for the tenth straight year
INVESTING IN HEALTH CARE
- Enacted a Patient's Bill of Rights, the toughest legal protections in the nation for health care consumers
- Established the Senior Care Program, which is available to over 100,000 seniors, to assist NC seniors with the high costs of prescription drugs
- Ensure children have access to health care through North Carolina's Health Choice for Children Program, which has enrolled 100,000 children, leading the nation in immunization against communicable diseases
DEFENDING OUR SECURITY
- North Carolina's work on homeland security voted as one of the most far-reaching of any state in the nation
- Supporting law enforcement efforts to obtain additional resources for improved communication, better intelligence gathering and encouraging better cooperation in sharing information, detaining suspects and alerting the public of possible terrorist attacks
- Supporting efforts to enact tough penalties for those who put our safety in jeopardy with use or threats of chemical or biological weapons or other weapons of mass destruction
Making North Carolina one of the most military-friendly states in the nation
PROTECTING OUR ENVIRONMENT
- Passed the Clean Smokestacks Law, the strongest plan in the nation for cleaning harmful smokestack emissions from our air without raising rate
- Protecting our state's open spaces and natural wonders, from the mountains to the coast
